Get paid for blogging

What would my vast number of readers think if I started advertising products in my blog postings? These are called “pay per post.”

The way it would work is I get a list of advertisers who would be willing to pay me if I post about their product (even if I say bad things about them). I then choose the product I would write about and I give you my thoughts on the item/website/service. And, this is the important part, I would always tell you when I am getting paid for that posting. So nothing is hidden. You always know what is an ad and what is not.

I already have ads on the website. You just don’t know it. Every time I post a book review (like the post before this one) I put a link in there for you to buy the book at Amazon. You never do. Or, at least no one has yet. But, that is an ad and I get compensation if you buy that book, or any other book after going to Amazon through that link.

Are you offended by that? You should be less offended if I actually tell you up front that these posts are advertisements. And, I could actually make a little money to pay for new running shoes and such. That would be cool.

I have heard about this for some time. But after reading about it on Stephen the Dog‘s blog, I thought I would give it more of an inspection.

Tell me what you think. I have heard precious little from my readers recently (thank you for being there for me Terry). I don’t even know if my own Mother is reading anymore. Sad isn’t it? So, if I don’t hear much negative about it soon, then I think I will sign up.

Five Podcast Categories

Here is a list of 5 podcast categories and some of the podcasts that I listen to in them. I could break these up in many different ways, but this is how I choose to do it today. I will not attempt to list all the podcasts to which I listen. Here are a few of my favorites in each category.

Health & Fitness:

Entertainment:

Science & Education:

News & Technology:

Religion:

I hope you find this list useful. If you have any you really enjoy in these categories, please leave a comment and let me know others that I might find interesting.

Ever hear of Vedic Math?

I have always been a lover of math. But, I have never enjoyed memorizing stuff just for the sake of memorization. Therefore, I am not very fast at math. Most who know me and know my fascination with playing with numbers and finding new ways to add, subtract, multiply and divide will probably be surprised to know that I don’t have the times table memorized. I know a few numbers by memory. I just work out the rest.

Recently I have been on a quest to renew my algebra skills. Though I used to be very good with algebra (I am quite skilled with thinking through things logically), I have forgotten many of the rules for how to work with algebraic notation.

ProBlogger is running a contest where people write a blog posting using a “top 5” list. It can be about anything. I was reading some of the entries so far.

One of the ones that caught my eye was about the benefits of “Mental Math.” Interestingly the article had nothing to do with the benefits of it, but did give 6* methods of learning and working out math. The blogger’s list included:

Learning by Heart–rote memorization
The Abacus
The Nine Chapters on the Mathematical Art–a Chinese method
Trachtenberg Speed System of Mathematics
Kumon Math Method
High Speed Vedic Mathematics

Hmm, makes me wonder. There are 6* methods listed. So does the blog poster’s method work when this is supposed to be a top 5 list? Their favorite is the Vedic system. Interestingly enough, it is a whole blog about that system. So, it seems a little skewed and understandable why they would say disparaging things about the other systems.

Nonetheless, it is the first time I have seen anything about it and I think I will pursue it a bit.

*Update: According to the original poster’s comments, he lumps the abacus and the other Chinese method together as 1 system.

Twitter

Have you played with Twitter yet? It is something that I told myself I would not get too involved with. I still have not. But it has been fun to play with.

Basically the idea is to answer the question “What are you doing now?” It works best if you text message in with your phone while you are doing interesting things.

The Twitter site is: www.twitter.com

The site that will help you see graphically what the point is: www.twittervision.com

My username is dpeach if you want to follow my tweets. Or you can just see the Twitter box at the bottom of the left hand column in the blog.

How God uses people

I read an article at esler.org today. It is a story of a blind two year old baby girl. She was blinded by her beggar parents so that she could bring in more money for the family. Shortly after they gouged out her eyes, they dumped her when the authorities learned of what the parents had done.

Mr. Esler’s point in his post is to show that God can use people to show His love to others.

God gave a perfect example of our relationship with Him. That example is the family. But sin has caused this example to break down. Our earthly fathers are not perfect. Therefore, we sometimes have a hard time understanding the role of our Heavenly Father. But God can, and does, use people to show His love to those who do not see this perfect example in their own families.

Parents, one of the goals you should have is to model God for your family. How are you doing?
