Happy Thanksgiving!

Where were you in 1621? Probably not in Plymouth, Mass. Or wherever they celebrated.

About 4 years ago we were in Plymouth and got to go see the rock. I am not sure if I have any pictures of it. I do remember that it was very cold. I don’t remember the time of year, but I think it may have been late October or early November.

Being the nerd that I am, I called my school principal (from 15 years previous) and left a trivia quiz on his answering machine. I said I was looking at a rock with the year 1620 carved into it. I wondered if he knew where I was. When he called me back, he knew. Can’t even get any satisfaction out of trivia on old school teachers.

While out running this morning I saw a Pilgrim’s Pride food truck. I knew it had to be Thanksgiving.

We are going to a friend’s house for Thanksgiving. Should be about 30 or so people there. Mostly US people. There will be a couple of Canadians with us.

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

McDonald’s PlayPlace

Have you been up in a McD’s plastic gym recently? Well, since I am over the age of 25, they did not have these when I was a kid. Therefore, I have never been in one…until today.

Good thing I have lost 80 lbs. recently. If you did not know, these were not made for people 6 feet tall. You probably could have guessed that though. Furthermore, if you are claustrophobic and close to 6 feet tall, this could be a bad experience for you.

Our 2 and a half year old daughter had overshot the slide that she wanted to go to and went a bit higher. Then she got up to a circular spaceship area. She never looked stressed up there except when we sent our son to go get her. We tried to coax her down with an ice cream cone. It was almost completely melted before I swallowed my pride and scurried up the little twisty tube to get her. She was just sitting up there smiling and having a good time.

She came right to me and down the steps to the slide. Then it was my turn down the slide. Whew, that was a tight fit. Kinda icky too. Nylon/plastic slide and I did not just slip down. It was either covered in grime or they have made it so that kids intentionally cannot go faster than a sloth.

What is happening to me?

I have been continuing on my regular exercise and eating program. Basically I exercise 4 to 6 days a week and eat whatever sounds good. Probably could do a bit better on the diet than I do, but I don’t really eat that poorly.

This week I have gained almost 10 lbs in one week! Today was the first day that my weight was the same as the day before. Previous to this I had gained at least a pound a day for several days in a row. I thought that the batteries in the scale must be at fault, but my wife has been using the scale and has not seen any change in its behavior.

I did my normal Tae-Bo workout this morning and then this evening I ran for an hour. Hopefully that will help me see some drop in weight. I am not really starving myself trying to get to a certain number, but you would think with all the work I put into this I could at least maintain my weight instead of gaining back several months worth of losses in just a week.

Time change

(I wonder how many blog posts will have that as their title today? Quite original.)

People go on and on about how much they hate the time change business and how that their hour gets stolen from them. Of course this is the time of year it gets given back to them.

I have no strong opinions about whether we should or should not change the clocks. I guess it helps one way or another. But what I do have strong opinions on is the incessant complaining by people about how they are robbed that hour. Get over it! No one took an hour from you. And you do not have it given back in the Fall.

I guess it affects me less than it does most people because I do not live by an alarm clock. If I had to be up at a certain time every day that might make a difference. But you get used to it in less than a week. Why all the complaining? For me, I get up between 6:30 and 7:00 every day. With the time change that will be move around a bit, but I will settle back into my getting up time in a few days.

Some people just need to learn to take naps.
