Technology gave my wife the pink slip

With the release of Firefox 2.0 my wife has lost a job. Since I am a horrible speller, she checks over my blog postings to laugh at, and correct my spelling. But, with Firefox 2 and its built in spell checker, I have a running spell check with everything I write on the web. Yes, I know you can get spell checkers for WordPress. I have used one in the past that for some reason just stopped working. The one I currently have works sometimes, but mostly does not. Therefore the spell check in Firefox is perfect for me.

Other features with Firefox 2 include some extra tab browsing features. Also supposed to help against phishing scams. I am not really sure what all the new features are. It does not look a great deal different and I can’t really tell if it is much faster. Though I have “broadband,” it is just barely that. So any speed issues I have, I am sure is a matter of connection, not browser.

Now I am not sure how I am going to get my wife to even read my blog. Of course, this frees me up to say things about her that she probably will never read. Like that time…

Back from Monterrey

I just got back from the large city of Monterrey in northen México. I was there from Monday evening to Friday morning. I was not actually in the city all of the time, but between the towns of Allende and Cadereytes for most of the week.

I had a conference with other missionaries and pastors working with the Deaf. Most of the attenedees have been friends of mine for a while, and all of them I knew previously. Therefore it was a great time of getting together with friends and accomplish some planning and much needed encouragment for one another.

I got to run a couple of days while I was gone. I did not run this morning since I had to be headed to the airport by 5:00 am.

Monterrey is a place where T3rry could feel right at home. It reminds me a lot of Knoxville. Except the mountains around Monterrey are more along the lines of the Rockies as opposed to the Smokies. But the way the town twists and turns with very few straight roads and nothing is flat is what will make you think of Knoxville.

I will give you more stories from the week in the next few days.

Birthday Season

October is a big month amongst my family and friends. When we used to live near each other we would have an October birthday party. Everyone got lumped together, kinda like birthdays near Christmas. But since there were so many, it was a really good time.

There are three birthdays that surround today. One yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Yesterday was the birthday of my best friend as a teenager, Pastor Phillip Winn. He was a big influence in my life in a good way. Though my parents may have something else to say about that. He is 10 years older than I and was my youth pastor at church. We remained very close friends through the years, though distance separates us and we have not been able to spend much time with one another. He now pastors a church in Oklahoma. I was looking for a link to his church or him, but found nothing. I did find a Phillip D. Winn that I am pretty sure is not him. If it is then: HEY! YOU NEED TO SHARE SOME OF THAT LOOT WITH ME!

Today is the birthday of one of my all time favorite software packages, OpenOffice.org. I have been using this since it came out, at least since early 2001. They celebrate 6 years today and they also released a new version of the software. It is available for Linux, Mac and Windows. I have used it on all three platforms and it is the only office suite that I have used for a few years now.

Then tomorrow is my favorite mom’s birthday. She has been with me for a long time. Probably since the day I was born, though I don’t really remember.

Happy Birthday everyone!

Bad day for cats

If you have a weak stomach, maybe you want to skip to the next post.

Yesterday morning when we were pulling out of the drive to go to church there must have been a kitten in the engine compartment. My wife was standing at the gate and saw the kitten on top of the tire. He must have jumped up there from being inside somewhere. When he jumped off he jumped right in front of the tire. Well, he did not make it.

You would think that a half mile drive to church would not be so tramatic.
Today my wife came up to my office and said she needed my services. That’s never good.

One of the other kittens had crawled up beside the washing machine and died. It was rejected by its mother last week. I had to dispose of it.

There were 3 kittens born in the adjoining lot to our house about 10 days ago. Now there is just one left. They hang around our house, but they are just strays.

Mommy’s car…Oh! It hot!

Car Fire 2Car FireMy sister-in-law’s car burned up!

We don’t know what the cause was, but she was driving to pick up my neice from day care when she noticed smoke on occasion. After parking and coming out of the day care there were people gathered around to watch the car burn.

The fire department was called and the car was put out. They said my neice was enjoying the show. Her comments: “Mommy’s car broken. It on fire. Oh! It hot!”
