Missionary Talks getting back on track

I have been very excited about grabbing some new interviews for Missionary Talks recently. I just need to get them edited and up on the site.

I talked with one couple today who are missionaries to the Philippines. That interview will be difficult to edit, but it will probably be the next one I upload. If nothing else, it will be a short one. We only talked about 16 minutes and I already know a couple of minutes worth of stuff will be tossed out.

Yesterday I was able to get an interview with a missionary in Mexico. He is a missionary kid (MK) and has now been back on the field for several years. Since my last interview was also with a missionary to Mexico, I thought I would put the couple to the Philippines first.

I would be working on the editing of those interviews right now, but I left my USB cable at home. I have had to borrow a cable from different people to get my sound files transfered from my recorder to the computer. I will be going home tomorrow where I have at least 3 of those cables. I will try not to forget one in the future.

Next week I have a goal to grab 4 interviews. I will be in a conference with some good friends and should be able to corner them for a few minutes to get some recording done.

Missionary Talks 58: Jonathan Anderson

I spoke with Jonathan Anderson this weekend when we were together in a missions conference in Georgia. It was great to talk to him about his goals and see his zeal for the ministry. He is a recent college graduate and has been on full time deputation for just a few months.

After we finished recording, he began to tell me about a prayer ministry that he does with young people in his church. It is all about praying for missionaries and mission fields. Unfortunately I did not record that conversation.

He was intrigued with the idea of recording phone interviews so that he can record conversations with missionaries and have them share with his prayer group their current needs. It was fun to tell him about some of the things I have learned in recording phone calls. I look forward to possibly working with him to get that set up.

I know I was hoping to be on a more consistent schedule with my interviews. I am disappointed that I have not been able to get more recorded, but I will still be grabbing them as I can. I will be in 3 conferences in the next 2 weeks. I am sure I will be able to get more recordings for the listeners.

Missionary Talks 57: Bethany Thompson

I just uploaded an episode of Missionary Talks in which I interviewed Bethany Thompson. Bethany is a long time friend, and it was a joy to talk with her for this interview. We have not talked in several years, so this interview was just part of an hour and a half conversation.

Sound quality is very good in some parts, but we did fight with some extraneous mic noise. I don’t think it will bother most people too much.

Now that that is over I can get to editing the run with T3rry.

Podcast Episodes

I have 2 podcasts that I am editing now. One I recorded several weeks ago. It is for Missionary Talks. Actually, I have 2 MTalks episodes recorded. One is such a bear to edit that I have been putting it off. I have decided that before I get to any other audio editing that I must get that one done.

That means that my recording with PlaneT3rry will be put off until I get this done. I must warn you though, the record quality is not that great. I will do what I can with it, but I am sorely disappointed with what I have heard so far.

The last My Thought Spot episode (where I was riding my bike) was so well recorded that I decided to use the exact same technique. The difference was the activity. Riding my bike did not have my shirt bounce up and down. I did not get any clothing noise from the bike ride. But the run resulted in clothing noise as well as a thumping sound on every step.

I will be able to do something with it, but it won’t be as good as it could have been. As soon as I get this MTalks episode done (hopefully by Wednesday) I will get to the PlaneT3rry recording.

Missionary Talks 56: John Corley

I am excited to possibly get back onto a regular schedule for posting Missionary Talks episodes. I interviewed John Corley this evening. Since it was easy to edit, I got this show out quickly.

I am going to try and grab another interview tomorrow to release next week. I also have another interview recorded, but have not taken the time to edit it. Some take much more time than others.
