What happened?

I was on a roll. I had posted to the blog every day this year. Then BOOM! No post yesterday. And I did not even realize it until this morning. *sigh*

Now to pick up the pieces and move on with life I guess.

The last few days have been a bit of a blur. Our son has been away on a trip to the US and we are trying to get stuff shipped to him so that he can be our mule and bring stuff back down to us. So I have been ordering different items like a motherboard, microphones, etc. He will be back next week. When he gets here, we will be glad to see him again…and get our stuff. 🙂 It is the same with everyone that comes down to visit. We have them bring in the loot that we either can’t get here, or is too expensive to buy here.

I found an old college friend by searching on the ‘net tonight. Why his name popped into my head, I don’t know. I wonder how long it will take for him to show up here. I posted a comment to his most recent blog posting. I figure he will be by to visit soon.

Tomorrow is my wife’s birthday. Typical of me, I can’t put my hands on what I want for her. I finally figured out a few items. One I had to order which may be here tomorrow. Another one, the place was closed when I went to pick it up this evening. Another gift is something simple, but the store only had one when I was there and it was beat up. So, she won’t have any gifts in her hands when she wakes up in the morning. But, hopefully, I will be able to get something to her by the end of the day.

I guess that is what I get for putting off my shopping to the last minute. But that is just the way I am.

More sizing problems

I had written a few months back that we were in the US this summer to do a bit of shopping. I could not find the jeans that I wanted because Wal-Mart didn’t carry size 32, presumably because they were too small. Previous to that I never had problems in the US finding pants big enough, but had problems in México because they don’t have large size pants.

Well, I went shopping for jeans again today in México. Still looking for size 32. Sam’s carries the pants that I like. But the smallest size they have is 33. Still out of luck.

Oh Boy! Homework!

Our son flew to Indianapolis to spend a couple of weeks with cousins. Though he has spent a few days in schools here and there, it has only been for fun and he never really got to spend 2 weeks at a time in a school. He has always been home schooled. In my opinion, if home schooling is done properly, there should never be homework.

Today was his second day at the school. He came home with homework and was just thrilled. It was his first time to have to do homework in his life. Being in fourth grade, this was exciting.

I just can’t imagine being excited about homework, but I also had enough of it to last me a lifetime.

Day trip to Cancun

Don’t you wish you could drive to Cancun for the day? Just a short 4 hour drive will put you on the beach in Cancun. Spend the day and drive home. What a trip.

Our day was not quite like that, but we do live that close.

We were taking our son to the airport so that he could fly to my brother’s house and spend a couple of weeks with the cousins. On the way to the airport we blew out a tire. Fortunately we had a spare and were able to change it fairly quickly. But, it put us in the airport late. Thankfully not too late to get on the plane though.

After the flat, we called some friends and had them look up a Costco in Cancun. (If you ever need directions to it, just post a comment here and I will get to it eventually.) We left the airport and found a McDonalds to eat at before heading to the Costco. We replaced the two front tires on our car, said goodbye to $130 and hit the road.

The trip back was almost all night driving. Something we never do if we can avoid it. You never know when a hole the size of Lake Okeechobee will be in the middle of a road. And it most certainly will not be marked in any way. You just disappear to never be heard from again. So if I ever just stop posting here, you will know what happened.

We got home tonight and had a voice mail from my brother telling us that our son arrived safely.

BTW, we did not go to the beach. It was freezing there today, especially with the rain pouring down. It only got up to 75 degrees today. I felt a little bad for the vacationers, but that is life sometimes.

Brithday party!

Our son turned 9 today. We invited a few friends over. Not many. There were 12 people in all. We had 6 parents and 6 kids.

While the kids played and did whatever kids do, the old people sat around and talked and played a game. I think we had more fun than the kids did. We played a game called mafia. Here are three sets of rules that give you an idea of the game. We did not play it quite like any of them, but similarly.

We don’t normally get a chance to hang out much with other missionaries just because we are all busy during the evenings. But the last couple of weeks during the holidays has afforded us the privilege of getting together more.
