Missionary Talks 15: David Peach

Here it is. What the world has been clamoring for…an interview with myself! (Ok, only three people have asked).

In this episode my wife plays host and I play guest. She did a fine job as host, but I must admit, I did a great job as guest. It was like I knew what the intended audience was and what questions would be asked. I am going to have to play as guest more often.

Actually, though I had written out the questions for her, she threw a few in on her own and mixed them up a bit. I had written a potential list of questions about 4 hours before we recorded. If you know me, that means that I had totally forgotten what the questions were by the time we got to the mic. So it came off as “fresh” I think.

I am working on a few new places/countries to get missionaries from. Early on in the show I did not have trouble working out recording times with people because they were mostly missionaries who are close friends or who live nearby. But now I have emails out to 3 missionaries that I wanted to get on the show this week. Out of the three only one has written back to tell me he cannot record for another month or so. Still waiting to hear from the other two. I have a ton of missionaries here locally I can get, but I want to spread them out so we don’t have all the shows from just right here.

The show is doing well. I appreciate all the votes so far this month. I have stayed in the top 10 at Podcast Alley in my category. Of course we are only a couple days into the month, so those numbers will change. I ended the last 2 months in the mid-30th position.

Enjoy the show!

Endurance Planet. SOLD!

I mentioned before that Tim at Endurance Planet wanted to sell his show. I heard last week that he did so. The details of the sale have not been released, but he said it was (paraphrase) “for no small amount.”

Jason mentions today some interesting thoughts about the sale of a podcast. Here is an excerpt. Be sure to check out his site to get the full details.

There are several things that give an established podcast worth. Here are the assets that you might have that have interest to a prospective buyer.

1. An audience that have expressed interest in a niche topic
2. A relationship with that audience (some of which can be transferred to the new host/owner if you play things right)
3. A community (the relationships that exist amongst your audience/users)
4. A back catalog of content
5. Established traffic sources in the form of search engine ranking, inbound links, etc.
6. A recognized brand name (a known source of quality information/entertainment)

The numbers are snowballing.

Just 17 days ago I sent out an email to those who had been interviewed on my podcast saying that we had crested the 1000 listens mark of the podcast. Today we topped 1500. So in 17 days the numbers increased 50% of what took almost 3 months to achieve previously.

These numbers mean I have averaged over 100 listens per episode.

The nice thing about the show is that it is somewhat timeless. The reason I don’t want to do a lot of extraneous talking in this show is that I want it to be able to be used at any time by churches and individuals to hear about the missionaries and their works. So any older episode is just as timely as any other.

Thanks for listening and spreading the word. This is growing slowly, but we are getting there.

Podcasts:
I have been listening to Planet3rry’s podcast Gravity @ 1053 today. I thought I was subscribed to it, but apparently not. He keeps mentioning on his blog that he has an episode about ready to go out. But, I never catch when one is actually posted. So I was not aware that he was really producing. Anyway, I am catching up. I have heard 3 today and my ears are not bleeding yet.

It is a running related podcast.Missionary Talks Logo

Time to vote. A new month is upon us. If you have voted for my podcast during the month of January, you need to vote again in February at Podcast Alley. This is a monthly voting process. You do have to give your email address, but I have not gotten any spam from them yet. Voting each month is kind of a drag, but it at least gives a podcaster an idea of how many are active listeners and it is kinda fun to watch the numbers. Looks like my show will end up in 37th place in the Religion & Spirituality category. That is about where I was for the month of December.

Also, there is Digg. At Digg you don’t have to vote every month. That is nice for the voters, but not so much for the podcasters. This means that once you get your main listeners to digg you, you have little chance of moving up in the standings. It really is just a matter of how many listeners you have. Not how many are rabid fans.

I am trying to promote my podcast as much as possible. If anyone could mention my show at your blog, that would be a great help. Especially if your blog might have religious type readers.

Running:
Yesterday I took my son out for a nice long run. He was doing great after 25 minutes (which was our goal), so I pushed him a bit further. He ran for 40 minutes and covered 5.05 Km. That is not a blazing pace, but it is the first time he has covered that distance. We had previously just been working on moving along consistently (at a higher pace), yesterday I was interested in starting to work up his distance. I did not expect to be able to run that far. He did very well. He may be running his first 5K race sooner than expected.

Blogging:
I wanted to have a post every day this month. I missed 2 days somehow. But, there are some days where I had more than one post, so I made up for the misses. I don’t really have a goal to blog every day, it just worked out that way this month. Maybe it will continue.

Thanks for helping me have a good start to the new year. Send people this way to see what is going on.

Missionary Talks 14: Ignacio “Pancho” Rovirosa

Episode 14 of Missionary Talks is up and running. In this episode we talk with Pancho Rovirosa, a missionary to Cuba.

Pancho spent a week at our house searching out the possibility of moving to this area of Mexico to minister while he awaits the approval for his whole family to move to Cuba on a permanent basis. Our prayer is that they will gain their approval before they can make a move here to Mexico, but if not, then we welcome them to the Yucatan to help nationals and other missionaries in their local churches.

I think you will really enjoy the interview. Tell a friend about Missionary Talks.
