Running for entertainment

Yesterday I went out for an 8 mile run. I was plagued a little trying to get out the door. I ended up starting almost 2 hours later than I wanted. That meant the temperature had rised from 75 degrees to 81.

Part of the difficulty was that I have not used my CamelBak in about 3 weeks, so there was stuff growing in the tube. I could not get it washed out before I left. My run was pretty dependent on having the big fanny pack. I ended up with another pack. Of course there was no water with the optional pack. I forgot to grab a gel pack and money for water on the road.

It was supposed to be an 8 mile run that I was hoping to extend if I felt good. But, 7 miles without water did me in.

I recorded a lot of stuff with my new mic. I will feature some of it on the podcast here at My Thought Spot. Some will be sent to 2 other podcasters. I will mention if they get played and where you can hear them if you’d like.

I also listened to several podcasts during the run.

The run was supposed to be an entertainment adventure. I was more interested in having fun listening to podcasts and doing some recording more so than speed or distance.

Did I have fun? You bet! It was a great run for that.

I got a new mic!

I was browsing through the hi-fi section of one of our local specialty stores today. I had been lamenting the fact that my microphones that I purchased from Giant Squid Audio Lab have not yet arrived. This weekend marks 6 weeks since I ordered them. It took him over a week to get them in the mail. Therefore, I have really only been waiting less than 5 weeks for them to get here.

Back to the specialty store. I was browsing through the aisles when my eyes spotted just the deal. This would be the perfect “tide me over” until my good mics arrive. Hanging on a bubble pack card in the computer section of Wal-Mart was a $2.50 lapel mic. Score!

I figured, for that price I could afford to take a chance that it was junk. On the other hand it had to be better than the built in mic on my iRiver.

I did some recording on it today and think it sounds pretty good. I will include some of the audio in this week’s podcast for you to hear. I am going to take it on an 8 mile run in the morning and grab some audio from the road as well.

It is very sensitive and picks up all noise as if everything were right on top of the mic. So it is not very good for interviews in a noisy environment. On the other hand, for sound seeing, it seems to be about perfect.

Promote Missionary Talks at iTunes

Today I posted at the Missionary Talks website as to how the listeners can help promote Missionary Talks. Vote via Podcast Alley, Digg at digg.com and write a review on iTunes.

I have really neglected iTunes and trying to get reviews written there. I only have three and would love to see that number jump quite a few. From what I understand, the formula for getting ranked higher in iTunes has to do with the number of new reviews and new subscription sign ups in the last X number of days. I constantly have new subscribers by iTunes users. What I need now are the reviews.

Can someone spare me a few words?

Thanks!
